Up-Lighting:
Skilled lighting professionals know that up lighting is a dramatic type of landscape lighting. This technique is used to dramatize any tall structure, monument or tree. With Trees being the most common element in a landscape design, highlighting the trunk of the trees, and the underside of the tree’s canopy from below separates a typical landscape from an extraordinary one, all this is done with light.
C-Series In-Ground lights are perfect for this function. The light from below shadows or silhouettes with ease.
Using the KICHLER C-Series works best to feature elements, while they develop a contrast of dark and light known as chiaroscuro. This style of landscape lighting design will enhance the texture of a wall or tree trunk in a way that impact the appearance of the subject and cannot be mimicked with the use of on-ground lights.
Silhouetting:
This effect highlights shapes and textures that are hidden in the light of day. When you place a C-Series in-ground behind the subject, and direct the light toward the primary view define the silhouette without the light source being seen. This is an amazing night time effect that creates twilight curb appeal of any property.
The subject being silhouetted appears to stand out from a soft light background. Use the C-Series with a variety of subjects like planters, shrubbery, and any featured element or tree.
Shadowing:
This is the opposite technique of silhouetting. When you install the C-Series In-Ground light between the primary viewing point and the object being lit, position the light source so it is aimed directly at the item. This works best when projected against a wall or flat surface behind the item to catch the shadows that are being created.
Washing:
A subject can be washed with a soft light, the positioning of an In-Ground light angled up creates an enlarged shadow that is bigger than the subject. By varying the distance and the angle of the light will create startling and distinctive variations in the design.
Grazing:
This can be a technique to highlight a hardscape design. Placing In-Ground lights close to the surface to be grazed, aiming directly up the surface causes light and shadow play. The goal is to accent the texture and pick up on the uneven or irregular patterns. This is an upscale application and is often used in hotel, restaurant and entertainment venue design. Grazing intensifies any textured surface it is projecting upon think of tree trunk, stone surface, etc.
All the elements of light control are built in with options in beam spread and a 15° degree tilt adjustment angle.
