Landscape lighting is one of the most popular upgrades with homeowners in New York and New Jersey because it adds both beauty and value to the home. Your landscape looks wonderful when the sun is out, but at night it can shine when you add landscape lighting to the design.
We are asked several questions about landscape lighting at EZS. The first one is “Why should I install landscape lighting?” There are many answers for this question; most important is that outdoor lighting and landscape lighting improves the security around the home by providing a well-lit area. Adding layers of LED outdoor lighting, like pathway lighting, patio lighting and other low voltage options gives you the flexibility to paint with light without flooding the neighborhood with extreme glaring light.
Along with providing improved safety around the home, outdoor and landscape lighting is a simple and easy way to increase the curb appeal of your home.
Tip #1
Choose the Proper Exterior Lighting for The Job.
Pathway lighting for walkways is a must when you want to have a safe route for visitors. Design the pathway lights so it doesn’t look like a runway at the airport. A softly lit walkway that leads to a nicely illuminated entry way is beautiful to look at and is a welcoming invitation to your friends and neighbors.
Place coordinating wall lights on either side of the door, or above the doorway. Many times, the lights selected for either side of the door are too small. Know the dimensions from the center of the electrical box to the door jamb and from the center of the box to any feature that will limit the height of the fixture, then select the largest piece that will fit, you won’t be disappointed.
Tip #2
Extend Your Outdoor Living Space.
Decks and patio usage increases with the installation of proper illumination.
Landscape Lighting can be used in task areas, such as an outdoor kitchen or grilling spot. Light up rails and steps for safety and beauty. Please remember the HARDSCAPING too. Adding light to this feature adds drama to an otherwise dark design feature while increasing the light levels.
Tip #3
Blueprint Your Yard.
Once you have determined what you want to do with your space it is time to make a sketch. Draw in the location of buildings and pathways, add in all bushes and trees, taking note of the height and width. Identify any features in the yard, such as fountains or architectural characteristics, they are marvelous focal points at night. The other benefit to planning first is that you will eliminate light pollution. Estrin Zirkman Sales and Kichler advanced product services department can assist with lighting layouts.
Tip #4
Make Your Final Adjustments at Night.
Laying out your landscape lighting during the day only provides a rough estimate of the look you will get. The only way to have a complete understanding of how your landscape lighting will appear, is to do your final setting at night. This allows you to create the drama you want from the projected shadows and the security you need in dimly lit areas.
Tip #5
Know the Quality of The Products You Purchase and the People Doing the Work.
A large portion of the landscape lighting products available today are made of materials that are not suited for the job. These products break, the finishes chip, peel and fade, then they ultimately electrically.
Kichler products are built with quality and the Design-Pro Series offers a 15-year warranty for residential applications. Also at the time this blog is being written, we feel there are no quality solar landscape light kits in the market. The plastic material used does not stand up to punishing winters or the crazed weed whacker. Landscape lighting is an investment in your homes beauty and value. If you do the project with poor materials it will cost you three times as much.
Not every landscape light has a built-in LED module, there are LED bulbs that will fit most fixtures.
